Selectmen Back 1099 Pay, Finalize Town Warrant
Shelburne selectmen vote 3-0 to keep fire district pay on 1099s and finalize a 39-article town meeting warrant.
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of April 21, 2026
Shelburne selectmen vote 3-0 to keep fire district pay on 1099s and finalize a 39-article town meeting warrant. Fire district representative Terry Dunn told the board a 1976 statute, Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 41, Section 108B, requires the Shelburne Center Fire District to pay the town collector and assistant assessor "in addition to" their town salaries, prompting a debate over payroll versus contractor status that the board punted to fiscal year 2027. The board also authorized a $30,000 hazard mitigation grant application, approved a Council on Aging banner request, and asked Selectman Rod to pursue truck weight limits on Old Greenfield Road after guardrail damage from tractor-trailers.
On the warrant, the board split 2-1 on two articles and took "no position" on four Community Preservation items it hadn't reviewed directly.
