Shelburne Select Board sends alcohol bylaw ban to town meeting, flags $34 Eversource opt-out fee. The board voted 2-0-1, with member Andrew abstaining, to warrant an amendment explicitly barring alcoholic beverages on all municipal buildings and grounds. Separately, Andrew called Eversource's $34-a-month smart-meter opt-out charge "excessive and punitive," noting other Massachusetts utility districts charge as little as $10 and New Hampshire and Vermont charge nothing; staffer Terry will gather comparison data before a formal letter to Eversource, the Department of Public Utilities and legislators.
The board also voted 3-0-0 to submit three regional emergency-management priorities, including West County EMS regionalization, to the Franklin Regional Council of Governments' technical assistance program, and adopted a new 911 street-addressing regulation presented by Fire Chief John Taylor. A separate 2-0-1 vote authorized winter warning signs at the Rod and Gun Club's long-closed Deerfield Avenue sidewalk.
